Software Communications Architecture

The Software Communications Architecture (SCA ) is an open architecture that governs the interaction of hardware and software in modifiable by software radio stations ( software defined radios, SDRs ). SCA has been developed in the main by the U.S. military and forms the core of the Joint Tactical Radio System. The main task is to monitor the structure and function of the JTRS to specify programmable radio transmitter and receiver elements for variable and to ensure interoperability.

A so-called Core framework is provision for SCA hardware. Thus portability is possible. Main integration areas for SCA are currently FPGAs and DSPs

The Object Management Group ( OMG) has a Domain Special Interest Group for software radios ( SWRADIO DSIG ) established with the aim to standardize SCA for commercial purposes.
