Software Engineering Institute

The Software Engineering Institute ( SEI) is a research and development center at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

It is largely funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. Also why the focus is on complex distributed embedded and real-time systems, the high requirements (reliability, availability, security, performance, maintainability, costs) are provided.

The SEI including through the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI, CMM earlier), the product line approach ( SPL / PLA), as well as the Computer Emergency Response Team ( CERT ) was known.
