BW

The Sogamoso Dam is an under construction dam with a CFR dam on the river Sogamoso in northern Colombia. It occurs 30 km west of Bucaramanga in the Santander district and 285 kilometers north of Bogotá. The main purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power usage. Upon completion, the power plant will have an installed capacity of 820 MW, which will increase capacity by 10 percent of Colombia generator.

The construction of the dam began in February 2009 and the generators are expected to be operational between late 2013 and 2014. In January 2012, the project was completed to 49.5 percent. The converted 1.74 billion U.S. $ expensive dam, including water power plant, part of ISAGEN. INGETEC planned the dam in the 1990s and Impregilo was awarded the construction contract. Scheduled to be produced annually 5056 GWh of electricity.

The 190 m high dam will accumulate a large reservoir of 4800 million cubic meters. In the plant, three 273 MW generators are powered by Francis turbines. The spillway will be on the left bank and have four radial seals. It was designed for a discharge capacity of 17,100 m³ / s. Against the dam there were protests by local residents because 160 families have to be relocated and the habitat of miners in the future of storage space and fishermen downstream negatively affected. Relocation and construction of new bridges and roads will cost 202 million U.S. $. To the reservoir around a 100 m wide protection zone is established.
