Sohrab Shahid Saless

Sohrab Shahid Saless ( Sohrab Shahǐd -sales; born June 28, 1944 in Qazvin, † June 2, 1998 in Washington, DC) was an Iranian film director, screenwriter and dissident.

Life

In 1962, he went at the age of 18 years, from Tehran to Vienna to study directing and dramaturgy. Later, he contracted tuberculosis and moved to Paris, where he studied further. After his return to Iran, he turned about 20 documentaries for the Iranian Ministry of Culture, including some of the " White Revolution " of the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and technical progress, the so came to Iran. In 1971 he was awarded a gold medal at the Tehran Festival. For the feature film A Simple Event, he was awarded several international awards. 1974 left Saless as an opponent of the Shah's regime, Iran. Many of his films have received international recognition. Tabiate Bijan / Still Life, his last Persian film was honored at the 1974 Berlin Film Festival with the " Silver Bear ". The films that he made in the following years, earned him the highest recognition. In 1981 he was awarded for Grabbe 's Last Summer three times the Adolf Grimme Award in Gold for Best Screenplay, Best Actor ( Wilfried Grimpe ) and best director. For his films he made himself to his favorite author Anton Chekhov as an example. His frequently bleak films tell of the loneliness, oppression and suffering. There was never complacent or fashionable cut sequences. The rhythm denied the comfy reception. You describe seemingly simple, everyday events that are raised by a quiet, precise images to Exemplary.

Several times he was threatened with deportation: " The residence permit does not replace the work permit " was stamped him in his passport. After the modest success of Utopia, he moved in the CSSR. A boy from Germany - where his film was Hans. Later he turned Roses for Africa. His last film in Germany was established in 1991 in cooperation with ZDF.
