Soichi Ichida

Soichi Ichida (Japanese市 田 左右 一, born December 30, 1910 in the prefecture of Tokyo, † 30 June 1986) was a major Japanese philatelist.

Life

His father had a very large stamp collection and had the first offset printing estates in Japan. He graduated in the field of metallurgy, he finished his doctorate. During his studies he participated in the 1936 Summer Olympics as a football player. Later he was president of a Japanese steel company.

It was relatively late, in 1950 he created his own interest in philately and he wrote seminal books in the area. He had probably the most important collection of Japanese brands in this period. National as well as international philatelic he held top positions.
