Sol Yaged

Solomon " Sol " Yaged ( born December 8, 1922 in New York City ) is an American clarinetist, who became known as a jazz musician.

Life

Yaged chose the clarinet made ​​his main instrument, after he had heard Benny Goodman in 1935 on the radio. He was initially trained as a classical clarinetist and had the offer to get a job with the Buffalo Philharmonic (which he turned down ). In the late 1930s he played in jam sessions. In particular, the Dixieland not let go of him, although he could be heard in the clubs of 52nd Street in the swing style. So he gave Eddie Condon, Gene Krupa, Max Kaminsky, Jimmy McPartland and Muggsy Spanier opportunity to play in their bands, the clarinet. He belonged to the musical consultants of the film Benny Goodman Story ( 1955). In 1959 he led a septet ( sometimes with Charlie Byrd ). The Metropole Club was named something like his second residence and so is his most famous jazz LP for several years; an LP which is a sought-after collector's item because of the participation of Coleman Hawkins.

Sol Yaged lives in New York City and is today (2010) to experience live with his clarinet, among others, along with Vince Giordano's Nighthawks. He was also involved in recording by Jack Teagarden and Chubby Jackson.
