Solange Fernex

As long as Fernex ( born April 14, 1934 in Strasbourg, † 11 September 2006 in the Biederthal ( Haut-Rhin), France), née de Turckheim, Alsace was a politician, pacifist and environmentalist. She was active above all in the fight against the use of nuclear energy.

She lived in Biederthal in Basel (CH) in the Sundgau, the southernmost landscape of Alsace (F).

In the elections 1973 the French National Assembly, she was in a constituency in Mulhouse the Suppléante ( substitute) by Henri Jenn, the first Frenchman who has been campaigning in parliamentary elections (first round) with environmental issues for votes. In the European elections 1979, she was together with Philippe Dufetel from Toulouse list first the political movement Écologie -Europe.

In 1983 she participated in over 40 days on a hunger strike for Nuclear Disarmament ( Jeûne pour la Vie ) in Paris. In 1984 she was co-founder of the French countryside. In 1989, she led the list of Les Verts for election of deputies in the European elections. In 2001 she was honored with an award for its commitment to nuclear disarmament.

In addition, she was, among other chairman of the French branch of the international organization Femmes pour la Paix et la Liberté ( Women for Peace and Freedom).
