Coleus ( Solenostemon scutellarioides )

Stained- nettles ( Solenostemon ) are a genus, whose species belonged formerly to the genus Coleus and Plectranthus, from the mint family ( Lamiaceae). The original species grow in tropical Africa and Asia. As an ornamental plant the coleus ( Solenostemon scutellaroides ) will be used.

Description

Solenostemon species grow as annuals or perennial herbaceous plants and evergreen shrubs without thorns. Some species are succulent. The stems are usually square. You can reach heights of growth between 40 and 100 centimeters. Often, the plants have an aromatic scent. The opposite, simple leaves are small to medium in size and hairy.

There shall be lateral or terminal, zymöse inflorescences. The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic and fünfzählig double perianth ( perianth ). There are five sepals intergrown available. There are five petals intergrown available. It's just a circle with four stamens present. Two carpels are fused into an ovary and divided by a false septum in four parts. Pollination is by birds ( Ornithophilie ) or by insects ( entomophily ).
