Soleus muscle

The soleus muscle (Latin for " Soleus ") is a skeletal muscle of the lower extremities, more of the lower leg. He works closely with the calf muscle ( gastrocnemius muscle ) together, they are synergists and is also described as the triceps surae. Nevertheless, he is an independent muscle. The soleus is mostly covered by the calf muscle. Only at the sides of the lower leg it is visible. The muscle is absent in dogs.

Function

The soleus muscle pulls the foot down ( plantar flexion ), by which man is on his toes ( walking, running, and jumping). He is also responsible for the supination of the foot.
