History

Zolwer is the town in the municipality Lisse, which is mentioned at the earliest. In October 793 or 794 spouses Garbannus and Ratsint gave the monastery of Echternach '' all their possessions in Wawergau, near the fort named Zolveren, in the villa, which is called '' Hagenen. So is '' '' Zolwer actually originally the name of the future castle on the Zolwerknapp before it was used for the village. Almost the same sounds Zolvere (1135, 1192 ). Probably romanized variants have been handed down later: Solo Eure ( 1236 ) and Soulueur / Solueuvre ( 1387 ). The meaning of the name is uncertain to this day.

In the early 1860s, mostly peasants lived in Zolwer. 1911 got together three small hut societies and founded the ARBED (now Arcelor / Mittal ), a steel operation with then 23 blast furnaces, steel works and rolling mills and approximately 60,000 jobs. The field and agriculture has been largely replaced by the mining industry and the farmers were miners. From the ARBED numerous, mostly small houses were built, which was given to immigrant workers of the steel mills available. Thus arose gradually quarters with foreign workers in Zolwer.

Structures
