Sonda is a village (Estonian alevik ) in the same rural community Sonda ( Sonda vald ). It is located in Ida -Viru county (East Wierland ) in northeastern Estonia.

Description

The village has 531 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2009).

Railway

The village lies on the railway line opened in 1870 between the Estonian capital Tallinn and the former Russian capital Saint Petersburg. 1897, the station was inaugurated by Sonda .. The village experienced by a rapid economic recovery. Especially the forestry settled in and around Sonda. The company Stakelberg & Dehn opened the first sawmill, other companies followed.

On August 1, 1926 a branch line was solemnly inaugurated. A 62.6 km long narrow gauge railway connected Sonda with the city Mustvee on the banks of Lake Peipsi. The operation on the non-electrified railway line with a total of 16 stops in 1971 finally closed.

Another railway line ran from Sonda to the cement plant in Azeri.
