Song Chong-gug

Song Chong - gug (born 20 February 1979 in Busan) is a South Korean football player.

Song is one of the stars of the South Korean football. He began at Busan I'Park in the K-League with 22 years. Previously, he had already been active in the South Korean national teams at the Junior World Championships in 1999 at the Olympics in 2000 and the Confederations Cup 2001. Then came his big break In the 2002 World Championships at home. At the 4th place of the South Koreans, he was an important player in all seven matches and scored one goal, although he tends to play in defense or midfield.

His convincing World Cup appearance helped him to a foreign activities in the Netherlands, the top club Feyenoord Rotterdam. There he spent two and a half successful years and came despite major injury breaks to 53 inserts in the Eredivisie as well as 5 and 6 Champions League UEFA Cup games. Injuries and disagreements with the new coach ended his time abroad and he returned back early in the K-League with the Suwon Bluewings.

However, Song Chong Gug - sat also there a lengthy ankle injury, long out of action until early 2006, he returned. That's why his preparation time for the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany had been too short and so he was used in the World Cup squad South Korea only once.

Song is one of the most popular athletes of his home country. His wedding was even broadcast live on Korean television in 2003.
