Song Sang-Hyun

Sang- Hyun Song ( born December 21, 1941) is a South Korean legal scholars. Since 2003 he has been a judge at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, and since 2009 its president.

Life

Song studied law at Seoul National University, where he earned Bachelor of Laws in 1963, and was admitted to the Bar in 1964. Followed in 1970 received his doctorate from Cornell University.

1972 song has been appointed professor of law at Seoul National University and taught there until 2007. Besides, he was a visiting professor at several other universities, as at Harvard, New York and Melbourne. In addition, Song worked as a lawyer for a New York law firm.

Song was involved as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Supreme Court of South Korea and the Ministry of Justice in the reform process of the South Korean law. He is vice chairman of the South Korean UNICEF Committee and co-founder of the Legal Aid Centre for Women and the Childhood Leukemia Foundation in Seoul.

In February 2003, Song for a term of three years, was elected judge of the International Criminal Court, where he is a member of the Appeals Division. In 2006 he was confirmed in office; its as scheduled nine -year term runs until 2015. In March 2009 he was elected for three years as President of the Court.
