Songkhla Lake

Thale Sap (also called " Songkhla Lake ," Thai: ทะเลสาบ สงขลา ) is a fish-filled lagoon in southern Thailand, near the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand in the province of Songkhla and Phatthalung Province. The Songkhla Lake is the largest inland sea in Southeast Asia. He is up to 20 kilometers wide, has several islands and two bird sanctuaries.

The Songkhla Lake consists of four parts. The southern, " Thale Sap Songkhla " called, opens up in the city of Songkhla on a 380 -meter-wide waterway in the Gulf of Thailand. It contains brackish water with about half of the salt content of the ocean. To the north, the water quality changes in fresh water. Further north is achieved by a 6 km narrow waterway to 782.80 square kilometers Thale Luang. North of the Thale Luang is the 28 square kilometers small Thale Noi in a mangrove swamp. Noteworthy is the 75 km long spit that separates the lake from the ocean. This was, however, Spit by silt, which connected the original lying islands here.

Ramsar wetlands

The wetlands " Khuan Khi Sian Phru " at Thale Noi Lake are protected by the Ramsar Convention since 1998. They are part of the larger 1975 furnished " Thale Noi Non- Hunting Area ".

Kuan Ki Sian is one of the few intact freshwater wetland ecosystems in Thailand. There are lakes, marshes, melaleuca, swamp, forest, rice fields and marshy grasslands.

A small population of Irawadidelfins lives in the lake, but his stock is highly vulnerable to overfishing and pollution.
