Songs in the Attic is the first live album by American musician Billy Joel.

Background

Upon his release in September 1981, the album introduced for the first time together a wide range of music from Joel's debut album, Cold Spring Harbor for a large audience, since the original album was now no longer sold due to legal disputes and had previously been laid only in small numbers. Joel wanted to introduce himself with Songs in the Attic, his early works the fans that were encountered only after the publication of the successful work The Stranger to his music by its own account.

After most of the instruments were recorded in his earlier works of session musicians, Joel toured until the end of the 1970s with a consistent group of musicians with whom he wanted to present the old songs again. Joel explained that some songs published by the new cooperation and the new framework in a completely different style: " [ ... ] Captain Jack plays with much more power and conviction When a roaring Philadelphia audience sets off a kind of internal explosion and the adrenaline screams through our veins [ ... ] " ( German " [ ... ] Captain Jack appears with much more strength and conviction when a screaming crowd in Philadelphia an internal explosion triggers in us and the adrenaline coursing through our veins [. .. ] ")

Two tracks on the album, " Say Goodbye to Hollywood" and "She 's Got a Way", were released as a single and reached both Top25 places in the U.S. charts.
