Sonique (musician)

Sonique is the stage name of British singer Sonia Clarke ( born June 21, 1968 in Crouch End, London). They or their ancestors came from Trinidad and Tobago.

Biography

At 17, she gained her first musical experiences in a reggae band as a singer and songwriter. Since they make a living could not deny it, she decided to tackle a solo career after the band From. She got a record deal and had under the stage name Sonique smaller club hits. The early 1990s, she learned about working with Tim Simenon of Bomb the Bass DJ Mark Moore, and became the lead singer of the very successful project S'Express, with whom she got in for the first time in the charts. After this project had expired, she moved back to the clubs and worked very successfully as a DJ in 1994. She has performed in Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States and benefited additionally from their singing abilities.

The late 90's again published their own singles. In the second run- through the detour USA had several chart hits, including It Feels So Good, which became a number -one hit in the UK and reached number 2 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in their homeland. With Sky and I Put a Spell on You, she had two Top Ten hits in 2001 and she won the BRIT Award for Best Solo Artist. In the following years she had more chart success, but was unable to match the high rankings.

In summer 2009, breast cancer was found in her. This defeated the beginning of 2010 after two operations and a five-month chemotherapy.
