Sonneck

Sonneck from south

The Sonneck is a 2,260 meter high mountain in the Kaiser mountain range in the Northern Limestone Alps. On his sprawling summit stands a solid cross on the summit, the panorama is extensive, especially appealing are the views of the Ellmau stop the Treffauer and Hintersteinersee lake.

Location

The Sonneck rises in the western part of the Wilder Kaiser in the main ridge between Felling heads, Kopfkraxen in the west and Ellmau maintenance and Treffauer further east. It is still one of the higher peaks of Emperor, but is rarely climbed.

Routes

The Sonneck is one of the lighter, but also quite unknown peaks of the Kaiser Mountains. It's either from the south or from the north via two different platforms for experienced and trained mountaineers reach.

  • Southern route: 4 hours for the ascent, 3 hours for the descent, 1,350 meters of altitude

The starting point of this route is Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser. By guest house hunters host (910 m) may be driven by car, from there on foot, initially quiet on forest and meadows. After almost 2 hours, the Kaiser mountain pasture is reached, then it is steeper on the south side of the sun stone over, then Laces slopes and free, schrofiges terrain taxing on the Kopfkraxen, the lower summit. On sunny, hot day absolutely must be gone off early, otherwise this climb is a torment from the Kopfkraxen demanding about the airy but secure Connection Ridge with a short ascent leads to the summit of the Sonneck. The final piece requires sure-footedness and freedom.

  • Northern Route 6 hours for the ascent, 4,5 hours for the descent, 1,750 meters of altitude

The starting point of this route is Sparchen, a district of Kufstein. First, a long march must be taken into account, however, which is extremely scenic. In 2.5 hours it goes through the Kaisertal past Pfandlhof and Antoniuskapelle for Anton- Karg -Haus in Hinterbärenbad. There may be stayed. The designated, but rarely committed route follows still half an hour the Bettlersteig towards Kaindlhütte, until the path branches off to the Sonneck. Not too exciting, in continuously steeper slope of the trail drops into the high Gamskar ( which bears his name correctly) and eventually leads over Gamskarköpferl by a Geröllkar laboriously to the summit of Sonneck.

  • Gratübergang

It is possible to exceed the Sonneck has Kopfkraxen, Wiesberg and chopping heads the entire ridge to Scheffauer. But this route is exhausting, tedious, not marked or secured, also exposed partially right and seasoned with several counter- rallies. It may only be committed by sure-footed and vertigo climbers with local knowledge and alpine experience. The entire transition from Sonneck to Scheffauer takes about 3 hours and then still has to be relegated to either Kaindlhütte or Hintersteinersee lake. This Gratüberschreitung is often committed in the opposite direction, their length and difficulty, but often underestimated.
