Sony Alpha 55

The Sony α55 ( SLT- A55V, SLT -A55 ) is a middle class camera which is commercially available since August 2010. It is the first digital camera ( with Sony α33 ) with Translucent Mirror. Sony calls this design "single -lens translucent camera", short SLT camera. As SLT offers phase comparison autofocus in Live View and an electronic viewfinder. The successor to the Sony α57.

By using the partially transparent mirror instead of the usual folding mirror, which must fold up for the taking, it is possible to perform up to ten frames per second at constant refocusing. This speed was far, if at all, only far more expensive cameras reserved. At the same time it is one of the four first Sony Alpha cameras with built-in video recording function (up to 1920 × 1080 pixels). The α55 has, as usual with Sony, a built-in image stabilizer for the 16.2 - megapixel sensor.

The Sony α55 is available in the following versions on the market:

  • SLT -A55 (no GPS, only outside Europe)
  • SLT- A55V ( camera without a lens with GPS)
  • SLT- A55VL ( Camera with 18 -55mm lens Sony 3.5/5.6 and GPS)
  • SLT- A55VY ( Camera with 18 -55mm 3.5/5.6 and 55 -200mm 4/5.6 Sony Lens and GPS)
