Soochow University (Taiwan)

The Soochow University (Chinese东吴 大学, Pinyin Dongwu Daxue ) is a private university in Taipei. Although the university has a Methodist background, it is a secular university organized today. The Soochow University is known for its law school. 2005 13.100 students were enrolled.

History

The original Soochow University was founded by Methodists, including among others the missionary Young John Allen, in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province on the Chinese mainland in 1900. At that time, three institutions were combined: The Po -hsi Academy, the Kung -hsiang Academy, and the Chung- hsi Academy. According to the Chinese civil war fled members of Soochow Alumni organization to Taiwan and established in addition to further existing Soochow University on the mainland Soochow University in Taipei.
