Sophie Thompson

Sophie Thompson ( born January 1, 1962 in London) is a British actress.

Life and career

Sophie Thompson is the daughter of actor Eric Thompson and Phyllida Law; the actress Emma Thompson is her older sister.

Thompson has learned their trade at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. She debuted in 1978 in the television series A Traveller in Time. In the television drama Secret Orchards (1979 ) she played a greater role. In the television war drama Tumbledown (1988 ) she appeared alongside Colin Firth; 21 ( 1991), she appeared in a larger role alongside Patsy Kensit.

In the comedy Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994 ) Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell Thompson played the bride of the second wedding. In the film drama Dancing at Lughnasa (1998), she starred opposite Meryl Streep to see as their sister. For her role in the comedy Relative Values ​​( 2000) with Julie Andrews and Edward Atterton she was nominated in 2001 as a British Supporting Actress of the Year for the London Critics Circle Film Award. Thompson was awarded in 1999 for her role in the musical Into the Woods the Laurence Olivier Award. She is married to actor Richard Lumsden since 1995 and has two sons.
