Sopor (sleep)

Prekoma

As sopor ( lat. deep sleep) or Topor (Latin sleep of death ) refers to a form of quantitative disturbance of consciousness, in which the patient is in a sleep-like state in which only by strong stimuli ( eg pain stimuli) reactions ( z. B. defensive movements ) can be initiated. A full awakening of the patient is usually not possible. The reflexes are obtained, the muscle tone is reduced.

This quantitative change in consciousness is only surpassed in extent from a coma, which is why it is also called pre-coma. The precursor of the sopor, however, is, somnolence.
