Description

The tree reaches a height of up to 15 meters and forms a dense, monotonous crown. The bark is gray and smooth and usually has little cracks, the wood is tough and whitish. The up to 10 inches long, egg-shaped leaves are lobed to the middle, cut at the top. The top is shiny dark green, the underside gray - tomentose. In autumn the leaves turn red. The flowers have a diameter of up to 2 centimeters, and are staffed with five white petals in panicle inflorescences. The plant flowers from May to June. The Swedish Whitebeam wearing berry-like apple fruits that contain multiple cores. These are spherical to ovoid, up to 1 inch thick and from orange to red color. They are edible and of mealy - sweet taste.
