Sosa Dam
The dam Sosa is a dam in the Free State of Saxony. It is used for drinking water supply of the western Ore Mountains and flood protection.
The dam was built in 1949-1952 hell base near Eibenstock in the Erzgebirge (commissioned 1952). The dam is a curved gravity dam of rubble masonry. It is the last dam of this type, which was built in Germany. The accumulated water is the Small Bockau. In addition, water of the Great Bockau is supplied via the slope gully to the west of the wood from the mountain top Wildenthal Wildenthal over the dam.
History
The construction of the dam was implemented shortly after the founding of the state of the GDR within the first two-year plan as the first central object of the FDJ youth. He is considered, in view of the simple means used for it until today as technically remarkable. Implementation as a youth project moved in the following decades a strong ideological imprinting by itself. The building was nicknamed dam of peace and was mentioned in the song of youth brigades ( We made for water in Sosa ... ).
On the construction of the dam remembered from 1969 to 1989 the tradition dam site of peace.
Recreational use
About the dam performs no public way. Swimming, fishing and recreational sports are not possible, but you can walk around the reservoir. From Sosa from you reach a car park near the dam.
