Sou Fujimoto

Sou Fujimoto (Japanese藤 本 壮 介, Fujimoto Sōsuke; * August 4, 1971 in Hokkaido ) is a Japanese architect and professor.

Life

Fujimoto joined the professional engineering in 1994 at the Tokyo University. He decided to work independently and to accept and execute smaller orders. In 2000 he opened the architectural partnership Sou Fujimoto Architects.

Fujimoto has held since 2001 visiting professor in Japan and since 2001 ao Professor at the Science University of Tokyo, since 2007 at Kyoto University and since 2009, both at the Keio University and at his alma mater.

Awards and prizes

  • 2008: Award in the category Private House at the World Architecture Festival for the Definitive Wooden House in Kumamoto.
  • 2008: Grand Prix of Japan Institute of Architecture (JIA ).
  • 2009: Design Prize of Wallpaper Magazine also for the Definitive wooden house.
