Band History

Soul II Soul emerged in the mid 1980s as a sound system and was founded by the then only 13 -year-old Jazzie B. He initially worked with producer Nellee Hooper, and instrumentalist Philip the Daddae Harvey and the Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra. There was an R & B sound with elements of Philly Soul, Disco, Reggae and 1980s hip- hop.

The first singles fair play and Feel Free reached 1988, the British charts. By sung by Caron Wheeler Title Keep on Movin ' succeeded in the following year 's international breakthrough. Back to Life ( HOWEVER Do You Want Me), which was also sung by Wheeler, the success of the previous single surpassed even. The debut album Club Classics Vol I debuted at # 1 on the UK album charts and won two Grammys in 1990.

1990 published Soul II Soul released their second album Vol II: 1990 - A New Decade, which again debuted at No. 1 on the British charts, and the hit singles Get a Life and A Dream's a Dream, which once again the way into many hit the international charts succeeded. The following extractions People, and Missing You failed to build on this success and placed only in Germany or in the UK.

On later releases Nellee Hooper was missing, as the star producer, among others was in the meantime working for Massive Attack, Bjork and Madonna. Jazzie B. worked now reinforced with non- dedicated guest musicians and singers. However, the combination of sluggish bass runs, the Philadelphia Soul sound ajar light harmonies and reggae influences increasingly lost energy.

Until the late 1990s there were several album and single releases, although they reached the charts, but no longer able to build on earlier successes. Since the late 1990s the Soul II Soul Sound System organizes regular party weekends. Besides music, there is a own fashion label.
