South Taranaki District

The South Taranaki District is an administrative unit at the southeastern tip of New Zealand's North Island. It is located in the Taranaki region.

Geography

The district is bounded on the north by the New Plymouth District and Stratford district, in the east of Wanganui District joins. The natural border to the west and south is the Tasman Sea, said the South Taranaki Bight accurate the South.

Population

The most important place and as the administrative seat of the " District Council " is Hawera. With 11,000 inhabitants it is to New Plymouth 's second largest city of the Taranaki Region. Other towns are Manaia, Opunake, Patea, Eltham, Kaponga and Waverley.

Economy

Like the entire Taranaki region is particularly important in agriculture, especially dairy farming. The location Opunake is with surfers a popular holiday destination as it is to provide the best conditions for the entire region.
