Southern Yellow cattle and Philippine Native cattle

The Chinese yellow cattle breeds of cattle refers to a group from China.

The following breeds are part of the Chinese yellow cattle:

  • Southern Yellow cattle
  • Central Plain Yellow cattle
  • Northern Gelbvieh

The Southern Yellow cattle are a Zebu breed and is held mainly in China, Vietnam, Taiwan, among others - it has the Zebu typical high hump. The Northern Gelbvieh is not a Zebu breed, so it has no hump; the Central Plain Yellow Cattle is a hybrid of the two and has a small hump.

The Southern Yellow cattle is small and tough and has a good heat tolerance and parasite resistance. They were bred primarily as draft animals, but are now also selected for meat production. The Philippines beef comes from this. In Vietnam, the Southern Yellow cattle are bred for milk production and crossed for this purpose with Red Sindhi cattle.
