Soviet Union national handball team

The Soviet men's national handball team represented the Soviet Union in international matches and international tournaments.

Among the successes of the team include a world title (1982 ) and two Olympic medals (1976 and 1988).

Successor to the team after the end of the Soviet Union, the Russian men's national handball team.

World Championships

The team participated in the following World Handball Championships:

  • Handball World Championship for Men 1964 in Czechoslovakia: 5th place
  • Handball World Championship for Men in Sweden in 1967: 4th place
  • Handball World Championship for Men 1970 in France: 9th place
  • Handball World Championship for Men 1974 in the GDR: 5th place
  • Handball World Championship for Men 1978 in Denmark: 2nd place
  • Handball World Championship for Men 1982 in the FRG: 1st place ( Champion )
  • Handball World Championship for Men 1986 in Switzerland: 10th place
  • Handball World Championship for Men 1990 in Czechoslovakia: 2nd place

Olympic Summer Games

The team participated in the following tournaments in the Summer Olympic Games:

  • Summer Olympic Games in Munich in 1972: 5th place
  • Olympic Summer Games 1976 in Montréal: 1st place (Olympic Champion)
  • Summer Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980: 2nd place
  • Summer Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988: 1st place (Olympic Champion)

At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, the team did not participate because of a boycott.
