Spadix

In botany, a piston (often referred to as a spadix ) is a flowering or fruit stand. It is characterized by a roll form with thickened main axis. The flowers and later the fruits sit without stem directly. Passage through a small length growth only a very short piston, so the difference to a head is fluid.

Examples can be found in corn, on certain types of millet, the calamus and in the arum family.
