SPARCstation

SPARCstation, Sparc servers and SPARCcenter were designations for a 1989 Sun Microsystems produced series of workstations and servers based on the SPARC architecture. They are the successors of the Sun -4 series.

The Sparc server models corresponded exactly to the Sparc station with the same model, but did not have the graphics card and monitor. Until the publication of the series 600MP model name started with 4 / ( Sun -4); then they started with S.

The first model of the SPARCstation series was the SPARCstation 1 (Sun 4/60 ) of 1989. This series led the Sun - 4c architecture, a variant of the earlier Sun - 4 architecture. The SPARCstation series was very successful internationally, which was partly because that Motorola developed until late modern processors. In 1995, the SPARCstation series was replaced by the Sun Ultra Series, the last model was the SPARCstation 20

In contrast to previous models of the Sun and other computer manufacturers, most of the desktop versions of the SPARCstation and Sparc server models were delivered in "pizza box" or "lunch box" housings.

The Sparc server models in their name with " 30" or " 70 " ended, were housed in edgewise desktop enclosures with 5 or 12 VME slots. The Sparc Center 2000 and the devices marked show " 90 " on the other hand had rack cabinet.

Later versions of the SPARCstation series, such as model 10 and 20 could be configured thanks to their MBus systems as multi- processor system.
