Spartoí

Divisions or Spartoi ( ancient Greek Σπαρτοί, " seeded " ) are incurred by Cadmus from sown in furrows dragon teeth ancestors of the Thebans.

Near the spot where Cadmus of Thebes should be based, there was a holy spring to Ares, which was guarded by a dragon ( or snake ). When the companions of Cadmus came to the source to fetch water, they were killed by the dragon, and Cadmus, who came in search of his companions on the dragon, it was only with emergency, to kill him. Athena was now Cadmus the Council to spread the dragon's teeth in freshly drawn furrows. When he had done that, grew from the furrows of a great multitude of armed men, who, after Cadmus had thrown a stone at them to fight each began survived until only five. Cadmus and these five divisions were the ancestors of the Thebans.

The most famous of the divisions is Echion, the Agave, daughter of Cadmus, married and his son Pentheus by Cadmus king of Thebes. The names of the other lines are Pelor, Chthonios, Hyperenor and Udaios.

According to Apollonius of Rhodes Athena surrendered half of the dragon's teeth Aeetes, king of Colchis. This forced Jason to win the Golden Fleece, as Cadmus to sow the teeth in furrows. Again, armed men jumped out of the furrows, but Jason threw a stone between them, after which they began to kill each other until no more remained.

In the Argonautica is reported in a very similar myth: there is Jason, who sows the dragon's teeth, which grow out of warriors who Iason on the advice of Medea to fight incites against each other.
