Speaker terminal

A speaker terminal (also speaker connection terminal) is used to connect one or more speaker wire to a speaker or the audio amplifier.

Some speakers have also directly on the basket a terminal.

Terminals on boxes must maintain the air - tightness of the Boxenwandung and are often located within a recess, so they are not damaged during transport.

Here terminals (screw terminals) are often used.

Until the late 1970s, mainly clutches for speaker plug to DIN 41529 were installed (so-called dot-dash plug) or banana plugs.

The boxes of so-called micro-compact systems have, for reasons of cost, only rarely have a speaker terminal. The speaker cable is firmly fixed in this case the speaker cabinet. In other cases, spring terminals are used.

In the professional sound technology Speakon, XLR connectors or 6.3mm jack sockets are used. Speaker cable with jack run the risk of a short circuit of the amplifier upon insertion or contact with metal parts.
