Special visual flight rules

The special visual flight rules, in short SVFR (german special visual flight rules) can be applied to a flight under visual flight rules, (, visual flight conditions engl. Visual Meteorological Conditions) must be conducted in VMC, even at prevailing worse conditions within a control zone to allow. By SVFR the higher weather minimums of the control zone are the lower minima of the surrounding airspace for this flight restated (see airspace structure ). In this way, can be held off and landing within the control area and the flight continue off under normal conditions. By SVFR prevents exclusively under IFR ( Instrument Flight Rules german, instrument flight rules ) must be flown, although the airspace around the control zone around too VFR ( Visual Flight Rules german, visual flight rules ) allow.

In Germany, for control zones in the airspace D (CTR ) weather conditions of at least 5 km flight visibility, 5 km ground visibility and a cloud ceiling of 1500ft, the clouds can not be touched ( free of clouds) in order to fly under visual flight rules allowed. SVFR minimizes these minima to provide a continuation of the flight in the airspace E.

This is subject to the following conditions in Germany, namely that:

  • Traffic situation permits it
  • The air traffic control authority so authorizes
  • There is ground visibility of at least 1500 m and 800 m (for rotorcraft )
  • There is a cloud ceiling of at least 500 feet
  • Flight visibility of 3500 m ( for jets ) / 1500 m (for props ) / 800 m (for rotorcraft )
  • The aircraft must remain clear of clouds
