In Hopsten the river at a bifurcation divides. The branching Giegel Aa also opens into the Great Aa.

Geography

The Speller Aa rises approximately 3 km west-northwest of Lotte as Stollenbach at an altitude of 89 m above sea level. NN. First predominantly flowing down in northwestern directions they reached home Langenbrück. Here the right side opens the Vorthgraben and left sides of the paper mill creek. Furthermore, the river now changed its name and is called Mettinger Aa ( 43.2 km from station ). Mettingen itself is about 1.5 km west of the river and is itself not flow through the arteries.

In the course culminate with Hundevorthgraben, Köllbach and Mettinger Mühlebachstrasse small tributaries in the Aa before the 10.7 km long Dark Dieker Aa opens on the right side. With the mouth of the oil mill brook, the river Aa Recker is called (from stationing km 35.5 ).

Approximately 1.5 km south-west of Recke crosses under the Aa in a culvert the Mittelland Canal. Now more to the west -flowing River crossing through Recke. Here ends the light coming from the south Ruthemühle Bach. In the further course open left side Schutbach and sea Becke. Below the mouth of the river sea Becke Hopstener Aa is called (from stationing km 26.9 ).

After another two kilometers flow path reaches the river Hopsten. Here the river splits at a bifurcation in Hopstener Aa and Aa Giegel. While the Giegel Aa flows in a northwesterly direction to host the Hopstener Aa, also known as Small Hopstener Aa due to the smaller amount of water to the west towards Spellenberg. Below the mouth of the Breischener Bruchgraben the Aa reaches the border to Lower Saxony, which makes them for about 4 km. After the mouth of the trough railway trench and the Getaugrabens the Aa flows completely in Lower Saxony area. Just below the mouth of the Flötte changes with the mouth of the Dreierwalder Aa again the name and now reads Speller Aa (from chainage km 12.5 ).

The Aa then flows through Spellenberg and then turns back to the northwest. After the mouth several shorter trenches ( Speller railway ditch, Venhauser Bruchgraben, Gescher ditch Westermoor ditch Bönnegraben, Heiteler ditch ) opens yet the Hess parent stream before the Speller Aa at 26 m above sea level. NN left-hand side flows into the Great Aa.

From the source to the mouth of the creek overcomes a height difference of 63 m, which corresponds to a flow length of 49.2 kilometers an average bed slope of 1.3 ‰. It drains a large catchment area 368.048 km on the Great Aa and Ems to the North Sea.
