Action

The psychologist Dr. Norman Johnson was commissioned to write an instruction and scenario description of a hypothetical first contact with an alien life form for the U.S. government in 1976. Since Johnson held the probability of such contact for vanishingly small, he faked the report and occupied the proposed team of experts with scientists from his acquaintances, including the mathematician Dr. Harry Adams and biologist Dr. Elizabeth Halpern.

In 1987, proposed by Johnson team of experts is surprisingly summoned to an alleged plane crash in the Pacific. However, the real reason for the meeting is the discovery of a gigantic spaceship which is located on the ocean floor for more than 300 years. In order to explore the ship and any on-board life-forms, the expert team is housed in a deep-sea habitat on the seabed.

In the study turns out that this is a U.S. spacecraft from the year 2047, which is ( presumably by a black hole ) to escape unknown way in the past. Place on board the ship there except a mummified corpse no crew, but a huge metal ball of extraterrestrial origin, which has picked up the ship on his journey.

Shortly after, it is one of the scientists managed to open the ball and to enter, the computer in the habitat suddenly received news of a strange creature who calls himself Jerry and apparently is able to manifest his thoughts in the form of physical objects. The alien being proves over time as increasingly unpredictable and attacks the habitat at using a giant squid manifested. Due to the repeated attacks all crew members come up on Johnson, Adams and Halpern killed.

Through the analysis of some logical inconsistencies Johnson arrives at the conclusion that it is the alien beings Jerry in reality is the subconscious mind of Harry Adams, who was empowered by the stay in the ball, to manifest his subconscious fears. Johnson and Halpern stun Adams therefore with an anesthetic.

However, after further manifestations occur, Johnson finds out that Halpern has been in the ball. He decides, therefore, also even to enter the ball, because he thinks he can control better than the other two his mind because of his training.

Finally, it is possible the three remaining protagonists to blow up the spaceship and return in a mini - submarine to the surface. Since none of them was able to control the manifestation of his thoughts, they decide together to use their powers to mention the ability to manifest again. It is suggested, however, that Elizabeth Halpern does not hold as the only to this Agreement, and reserves your skills.
