Spialia doris

Spialia doris is a butterfly of the family of Skipper ( Hesperiidae ).

Features

The forewing length of the subspecies Spialia doris daphne is about twelve millimeters. The top two pairs of wings is colored brown-black and has a full set of white Submarginalflecken, the Diskoidalfleck is crescent shaped. The stain in cell seven on the underside of the hind wing is well separated from the large white Diskoidfleck.

Occurrence

Spialia doris is widespread in Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and India. Are populated very hot, dry canyons with sparse vegetation. In the Atlas Mountains, the type occurs 400-1750 meters above sea level.

Way of life

The adults fly in two generations from late March to May and from late August to September. Your flight is very fast and low to the ground. The caterpillars feed on Convolvolus lanatus, Convolvolus caputmedusae and Convolvolus trabutianus.
