Features

Butterfly

The moths reach a wingspan of an average of 27 to 30 millimeters. The ground color of the forewings is pale yellow to honey-yellow. The root field is slightly darkened. The midfield enclosing inner brownish transverse line is bent sharply at right angles under the front edge, the strong violet-brown outer transverse line shows a strong tooth-shaped bulge in the direction of the seam. At the apex there is a brownish graduation mark. On the white- yellow hind wings the transverse lines are almost extinguished. In newly hatched butterflies the fringe is alternately spotted light and dark. This feature fades at longer flown copies.

Egg, caterpillar, pupa

The egg has initially a yellow-green color, later it takes on gray tints. The green-gray Mikropylrosette is ten to zwölfblättrig.

Adults caterpillars have a greenish color and show yellow segment incisions. The back line has a brownish green color and is edged whitish. The thin side ridge lines are yellowish white, the side stripes indistinct pale yellow.

The doll has a pale yellow color and is fitted with a brown markings.

Geographical distribution and occurrence

The area of ​​distribution of the Honey Yellow tuft tensioner extends from western and central Europe, including the British Isles eastwards through Russia to the Amur region. In the Alps, it rises to a height of 1100 meters. The species also occurs in North America. The honey yellow tuft of hair clamp is preferred to be found in vegetable gardens, orchards and shrubbery rich forest edges.

Way of life

The moths are crepuscular and nocturnal and fly univoltine mainly from early June to early August. At night they visit artificial light sources. Among the food crops of living in May or June caterpillars include gooseberry (Ribes uva- crispa ) and currant species ( Ribes ). Pupation takes place in a slight cocoon in crotches or in dry leaves. The egg overwinters.
