Criticism

A few years after its foundation appeared in the Romanian media repeatedly criticizing the Spiru Haret University on. This threw the Institute before a cadre of post-communist power elite of the country and to be a hub of corrupt networks. In fact include numerous personalities of the Romanian economy and politics to their graduates. In addition, appeared again and again to criticism of the poor quality of education and frivolous award of academic qualifications and Professor titles. In many cases, it was also referred to as a " diploma mill ". Had yet been awarded 5,700 diplomas in 2003, this number increased to 56,000 by the year 2008. In addition, the founder of Aurelian Bondrea was accused to have been a confidant of Elena Ceauşescu in the time of communism, the entire education and career has taken place within the Communist Party of Romania.

This criticism culminated in the summer of 2009, a scandal in the public widely discussed. Only graduates of Spiru Haret University were not approved in July 2009, the competition for free teacher jobs in the government school system. In August 2009, the Education Minister Ecaterina Andronescu withdrew from the University of approval for the award of licentiate to three years. Numerous diplomas of some prominent graduates were denied retroactive. Later, the entire university under guardianship of the Romanian Ministry of Education ( Ministerul Educaţiei şi Cercetării ) was provided.

Against this decision, the University has filed 2009 appeal in court on November 10. At the moment, students of Spiru Haret University may continue their training as normal, but must pass a final examination at another accredited university to obtain an officially recognized diploma. A civil individual lawsuit was decided in August 2010 before the Supreme Court, thus creating a precedent. The court noted that the Ministry of Education was not authorized to deprive this diploma later. The Ministry announced it, contrary to the judge's decision to continue not to accept such statements for inclusion in the government service. Instead, the possibility of an additional test was created, but must be taken before an assembled by the Ministry Commission and not via the Internet as described previously by Spiru Haret. Numerous civil lawsuits by individual persons are in 2011 still pending in court, do not want to put this appeal and instead continue to deny the legal system.
