Spithami (Swedish Spithamn, German Spitham ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Noarootsi ( Noarootsi vald ) in Lääne in Estonia.
Population and location
The place has six inhabitants ( 31 December 2011).
Northwest of Spithami extends the Põõsaspea Peninsula ( Põõsaspea neem ) in the Baltic Sea. East of the village stretches along the sea coast, the elongated nature reserve Nõva ( Nõva maastikukaitseala ).
In the Middle Ages, the town served as a fishing place of the local farmers. Before the middle of the 14th century Sweden, where they founded a village. In 1514 it was mentioned as Spithaven documented.
The place name is once again officially bilingual Estonian and Swedish, as the village was part of the traditional settlement area of the Estonian Swedes.
