Homozygous SW1

Only homozygous animals show the spotted coat pattern. You have inherited from each parent, the genetic predisposition for these coat color and bequeath it to all their children.

The drawing may be in minimum, medium or maximum expression. If a homozygous Splashed White has only a minimal drawing and little white shows, one would expect a larger head white badge, white leg markings and at least a small white spot under the belly.

With mediocre expression can be almost the whole head are white. From the belly of the drawing rises from below or splits typically the colored areas.

Health

If eyes are blue in animals due to leucism, it can be assumed that they can look worse than horses with normal colored eyes. Obviously, the form of this disability in blue-eyed horses is so mild that riders can not read the behavior of the animal, but you can see again and again that the animals in bright sunshine rather close their eyes to avoid being blinded.

Report Paint Horse breeders that animals are often numb with alleged Splashed - white drawing. In some lines and families, these problems occur repeatedly. Genetic studies have shown that it is not to the one described here form the Splashed White ( SW1), but another drawing that has been detected only in the Paint Horse and is described as SW2.

Mixed forms

In addition to Splashed - white gene, a horse can carry more Scheckungsgene. This then created check pattern, have the characteristics of both Ursprungsscheckungen. Mix multiple drawings, maximum drawings may arise that are so far revealing that the horse is completely white. A mix of tobiano and Splashed White can eg produce a completely white horse. Sometimes these animals also have drawn twice last remains of paint on the head that look like a hood, which is supported between the ears. This coat color is also known as Medicine Hat or helmet called pinto.
