The / the jacket - also Sacco or jacket ( Old French: jacque = tunic ) → jacket; in Switzerland also Veston, gowns or Czech Open - is an important garment of men's wear in western countries. In contrast to the Lord rock the jacket is continuous cut while Mr. skirts have a waist section (waist seam).

Shapes and cut

In fact, there is one at the front with buttons closable jacket with a raised collar far down ( reverse ), which is vaguely reminiscent of a shirt.

A distinction is made between the traditional single-row (buttons in a row) and the double-breasted jacket ( übergeknöpft, ie buttons in two rows ). In single-row cut jackets, a distinction between the traditionally conservative, American -section with two buttons ( of which only the top is closed) and the English section with three buttons ( be in which either the middle or the top two closed). Two herons almost always have a straight racking, while single-breasted, are out in uniforms, mostly cut with round tapping.

On the side of the jacket two outside pockets are attached or incorporated, rare jet pockets, usually flap pockets, this comes on the left side of the chest, the chest pocket, one welt pocket for a handkerchief. Special forms for editing are the additional ticket pocket and when working the tailoring edge.

A tailored jacket is distinguished by the fact that the buttons are buttoned at the cuffs, so they can be opened. With ready-made, this is usually not the case, because otherwise would not be adapting the sleeve length on the customer `s usually because the buttonholes possible. It is said that some carriers from suits were happy to open the bottom button on the sleeve to show that they are wearing a tailored suit.

Combination with other garments

Often a jacket is worn with shirt and tie. This style is often practiced as business attire in the office or at very formal society occasions. However, today, other combinations are also possible, for example with open shirt collar without a tie, with a sweater ( turtleneck ) or even in the summer with a polo shirt or T- shirt.

For a long jacket trousers are worn often, this results in the so-called " combination ". A classic-sport combination is eg a dark blue blazer in a gray wool trousers or chinos. Leger, but in leisure is perfectly portable and a blazer or a tweed jacket with jeans. Is the outer fabric of trousers and jacket equal, both together form the suit. With a matching vest, this results in the classic three-piece suit.

Ladies and gentlemen

The Above mentioned is also true for women's fashion and Jacket pants suit. Jackets for women are due to close historical reasons in the other direction as for men. That is, a Men's Jacket has the buttons (from the perspective of the carrier) on the right side, the buttonholes on the left. In a ladies jacket is reversed.

Overcoat

A special form is the more common formerly worn by men jacket coat, better known as overcoat. The overcoat is not thicker coat, but an elegant city - union of suit fabric. He's practically an extended on coat length jacket and worn over the jacket.
