The dot - knight fish ( Equetus punctatus ) belongs to the family of croakers ( Sciaenidae ) and comes in coral reefs around Bermuda, before Florida, off the coast of Yucatan and the Bahamas and West Indies and off the coast of Brazil.

Features

Pits Knight fish have the typical black and white drawing of their species. The first dorsal fin is very high and has a short fin base. The second dorsal fin and the caudal fin are black with white dots that are missing juveniles. Be drawn over the head two dark bands, one above the eye, the other further back is more diagonally and ends in front of the pectoral fin base. A broad dark band runs from the tip of the first dorsal fin to the middle of the caudal pedicle. Over and above run two additional narrower bands. The mouth is small and is almost horizontal. The air-bladder is in the shape of a carrot and without ramifications. The otoliths are large and almost round. Pits Knight fish are 25 to 27 cm long.

Way of life

Pits Knight fish inhabit mainly protected areas of coral reefs and spend the day under overhangs or near the entrances of small caves on. You go out at night in search of food. They eat about 90% of various crustaceans (shrimp, crabs, sea lice ), next of bristle worms, mollusks and small fish. Your spawning drives using a small drop of oil in the open water.
