Springfield is a city in the western part of the U.S. state of Oregon with 59 403 inhabitants ( 2010). The city is located on Interstate 5 and together with the neighboring city of Eugene, a metropolitan area in Lane County.
General
The first inhabitants Springfields members of a family are called Briggs in 1848 settled in the area. The settlement was declared a town in 1885 and named after a nearby spring. For decades dominated the lumber industry in Springfield, until the early 1990s, the health care industry discovered the city as a location. The population has risen sharply within decades; lived in 1950 more than 11,000 people in Springfield, there are nearly 60,000 in 2010.
