Sprinkles

Sprinkles (Dutch hailstones ) is a Dutch sandwich filling of chocolate or colored sugar.

The elongated grains have similarity with hailstones, where the Dutch name comes. Some varieties have taken the grains in the form of flakes. Sprinkles can be scattered out of the box on a buttered bread or other pastries.

Just sprinkles with at least 35 % cocoa content may be chocoladehagelslag called; with a smaller proportion being cacaofantasie called. Due to the reduced cocoa and higher sugar content, the grains melt worse.

Sprinkles is available in different flavors. The best known are:

  • Dark Chocolate
  • Mixture of milk chocolate and white chocolate
  • Vruchtenhagel
