The Cantabria, formerly as Buque de Aprovisionamiento en Combate (BAC, dt: Fight supply ship ), is a supply ship of the Spanish Navy. The second largest ship in the Armada after the Juan Carlos I was named after the autonomous region or province of Cantabria.

History

The second round of sea trials took place before the end of 2009 Cadiz. Eighteen months later than planned Cantabria was put into service in mid-2010. A technical reason to have been the drive, in addition, such a large ship was last left in the 1930s to the shipyard from the stack.

When passing by the manufacturer to the customer representatives of Canada and Norway were present, both countries have shown according to the manufacturer, interest in the design.

In 2013, the ship is eight months supporting the Royal Australian Navy ( RAN ), the HMAS Success then a longer wait time is spend in a shipyard. They arrived in Melbourne in February. The RAN will be able to familiarize themselves with some of the systems which are installed two of their future, based on Spanish designs, ship classes (Canberra and Hobart class).

Technology

The ship was built by civil shipbuilding standards. These include a double hull to protect the fuel tanks. The Cantabria parallel can supply three more ships to sea, they can perceive hospital tasks and can also monitor tasks with regard to pollution perceive able environmental monitoring procedures.
