Spyridon Trikoupis

Spyridon Trikoupis (Greek: Σπυρίδων Τρικούπης; born April 20, 1788 in Missolonghi, † February 24, 1873 ) was a Greek politician and Prime Minister in 1833.

Life

After studying in Paris and London, the son of a clergyman private secretary to the then British Governor of the Ionian Islands, Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford was.

During the struggle for independence from 1821 to 1827, he held several important positions in the administration. During this time, a friendship with the well-known writer and supporter of the Greek struggle for independence Lord Byron was born. When he died in Missolonghi on 19 April 1824 Trikoupis held the grave speech, which was translated into several languages.

In 1826 he became a member of the Provisional Government and the following year a member of the National Convention of Troizen.

In 1832 he was President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs for some time. After the enthronement of King Otto I, he was the Prime Minister on February 6, 1833. This office he held until October 24, 1833. During his tenure, his son Charilaos Trikoupis was born on July 11, 1832, the 1875-1895 seven times prime minister.

Then Trikoupis worked as a diplomat. From 1835 to 1838 and from 1841 to 1843 he was ambassador in London. After a short stint as ambassador in Paris from 1849 to 1850, he was then to 1861 again ambassador in London.

Trikoupis was also a recognized speaker and writer. A collection of his early religious and political speeches was published in 1836 in Paris. His major work, History of the Greek Revolution ( Ιστορία της Ελληνικής Επαναστάσεως, London, 1853-1857 ) was a standard work of the history of the War of Independence from 1821 to 1827.
