SQL Server

SQL Server relational database systems, whose data can be queried and manipulated via the query language SQL.

The term "SQL Server" appeared also on the product names of two database management systems (DBMS ):

  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Sybase SQL Server

The Microsoft SQL Server -based to version 6.5 on the source code of the Sybase SQL Server. Both were - independently - continuously developed since 1989. With the release of version 7, Microsoft changed to the self-developed database engine MSDB.

In free MySQL database is called the actual SQL Server program mysqld ( 'd' for daemon ).
