St John's Cathedral (Brisbane)

The St. John's Cathedral (St. John's Cathedral ) in Brisbane ( Australia) was completed after 108 years of construction 2008. It is named after the Liverpool Cathedral (1978) and the Washington National Cathedral in Washington DC (1990 ), the last Gothic cathedral built in the world. ( The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York is still under construction ).

The construction contract for the St. John the Evangelist Anglican bishop consecrated church of the ecclesiastical province of Australian Queensland fared in 1885 or 1886., The British architect John Loughborough Pearson ( 1817-1897 ) designed a church, which was modeled after he built the Cathedral of Truro in Cornwall. Model for both was the early Gothic Cathedral of Lincoln ( Lincolnshire ). Due to various delays, it was until 1901 the foundation stone was laid in 1903 to the actual start of construction of the Cathedral in Brisbane. The original plans were, meanwhile, slightly modified by Frank Loughborough Pearson, the son of the author's plan.

Construction activity at the church funded by donations found so far in three main periods instead. 1906-1910, then 1965-1969 and 1989-2008 Last time was planned to complete the cathedral building in 2007, after the construction in 2008 was completed and consecrated on 29 October 2009.

St.John 's Cathedral is the seat of a famous Australian men's and boys' choir with religious as well as secular repertoire. The organ ( four manuals ) is often used for organ recitals.
