St Patrick's Athletic F.C.

The St. Patrick 's Athletic Football Club ( also briefly: the Pat's, Irish: Cumann Peile Lúthchleas Phádraig Naofa ) is a football club founded in 1929 from the district of Inchicore Dublin, Ireland.

History

In the years after the establishment of the Pat's dominated the League of Leinster, after all, they were included in the League of Ireland in 1951. The first ten years in the league were the golden decade of the team; in the debut season immediately succeeded the championship. This could be repeated in 1955 and 1956; 1961, was again second. St Patrick's Athletic stood there three times in the cup final. The first in 1954 they lost 0-1 against Drumcondra yet, but the 1959 and 1961 could both be won each.

This was followed by a long dry spell in which Pat's not in the league still in the cup competitions achieved something; Although focused on the Pat's 1967, 1974 and 1980 respectively in the Irish Cup 1980 finals in addition also in the League Cup final, but lost them all these playoffs.

In 1986, the future Irish coach Brian Kerr responsibility for the team. He led them in the following eleven years, where he remained her coach, at the top of the league. 1988 you had to have the last round in the battle for the championship defeated the Dundalk FC. Two years later, in 1990, they won the first national title after 34 years. Nevertheless, the beginning of the new millennium was successful with the first two titles in the League Cup in 2001 and 2003 2006, the club after reaching the final of the Irish Cup again the chance to win a major title, but failed after interim leadership just 3: 4 to Derry City.

International Club of the difference almost always in the qualifying stages. In qualifying for the UEFA Cup 2008/ 09 the club moved for the first time in the main round of the UEFA Cup after the first two qualifying rounds Olimps Riga ( LAT) and IF Elfsborg (SWE ) were defeated. In the first round St Patrick's Athletic won with a total score of 0-2 against Hertha BSC. The Pat's sat in the season 2009/ 10 in the qualifying round of the Europa League by and were qualified for the main round in which they were eliminated, however. In the 2012/13 season, Pat's met in the third qualifying round of the Europa League to Hannover 96, but against whom they have only 0-3 at home and then lost 0-2 away and are thus eliminated from the competition.
