St. Anthony-Chapel

The Anthony Chapel is a Catholic church on the outskirts of Aachen district Kornelimünster.

Chapel of the Cross to Kornelimünster

The Anthony Chapel is one of a family of chapels surrounding Kornelimünsters Abbey Church of St. Cornelius and the location on the Mount Church of St. Stephan cross. It consists of the Antonius chapel, the Chapel of St. Gangolf, which only partially preserved St. Nicholas Chapel and the Klauserkapelle Mary in the snow.

History

The predecessor of the present chapel was first mentioned in 1718 and had a triangular shape. After an earthquake, in which the chapel was badly damaged and had to be demolished, the abbot of the imperial abbey Kornelimünsters Karl Ludwig von SICKINGEN - Ebernburg new design the building in the years 1756/57. This resulted in a hall building of 11 meters in length and a width of about 6.50 meters. The dedication of the church took place only in 1781 by the then administrator of the imperial abbey Kornelimünster Cark Caspar von der Horst on the name of Saint Anthony.

In the construction of the chapel, there was a special feature. After completion of the building shell, the chapel of donations received a bell. It emerged that they found no place due to their size in the bell tower. For this reason it was left to the parish church. There she met today for its function.

The Antoni - bells used today was consecrated cast by the foundry Gebr Petit & Edelbrock from Gescher and on 21 June 1891.

The chapel is built in the region from the very common quarry stone.

After the Second World War until 1965, the chapel of the Protestant church served as a place of worship.

In 1986 and in subsequent years the chapel was restored, with outdoor and indoor works have been performed.

Interior decoration

Two stained glass windows from the years 1890/1900 with ornament paintings were mounted on both sides of the altar on 3 to 5 June 1891. They were manufactured by the company Eupener Winkold. Point you in the right windows Maria with the child and Saints Anthony and on the left side of the Saints Maximus and St. Francis of Assisi.

The church ceiling is slightly arched. Share Colored ribbons on them. The central axis has in Western easterly round frames. The Annunciation, Birth and the crucifixion are shown. The ruler of the world, accompanied by Mary and John was shown in the semicircle of the choir ceiling. Banners of the prophets of the Old Testament point to the salvation.

A special feature is the representation of Saint Cornelius on the West pediment of the gallery. Usually he is portrayed with a horn, here he is wearing a tiara, a wand and a book. The patrons of the church music, St Cecilia and King David with harp flanking both.

Striking is a beginning to the gallery, the entire church space enclosing saying in Latin (Ps. 117.24 and 1).

An Art Nouveau grating separates the gallery from the church.

To the left of the entrance is the Pietà " Sorrowful Mother ". Originally, there was a mural that is, however, no longer be identified.
